C-section Recovery
What is a C-Section?
A C-section, also called a caesarean section, is a surgical procedure to deliver your baby. It can be planned in advance (elective) or performed in emergencies. During a C-section, your doctor makes a small incision in your lower abdomen, just below the bikini line, to deliver your baby safely.
Our Specialist Treatment Addresses Common Post-Caesarean Challenges:
It's vital to address the physical impact of a C-section to prevent long-term complications. Our rehabilitation program helps with:
Scar Tissue Management: Techniques like C-section scar massage to soften the scar, reduce sensitivity, improve mobility, and minimize the appearance of an "overhang."
Restoring Sensation: Addressing numbness, tightness, or pain around the incision site.
Core & Abdominal Strength: Safely assessing and treating abdominal muscle separation (diastasis recti), focusing on functional core stability without risking the scar.
Pelvic Floor Function: Although you didn't deliver vaginally, your pelvic floor still supported the weight of pregnancy. We assess and strengthen it as part of your holistic recovery.
Safe Return to Exercise: Providing a clear, staged progression to return to lifting, running, and all activities with confidence and without injury.
Here at Physio Katy in Beckenham, we understand the importance of supporting your body after childbirth, especially after a C-section. I will support you on your journey by putting together an effective, fully tailored treatment programme that will be centred around the latest techniques and proven therapies and designed to get you and your baby back on track.
Treating C-section:
Many women experience scar tissue tightness or adhesions around their C-section scar. These can contribute to pain in your abdomen, lower back, or pelvic region. I offer manual scar release techniques and visceral manipulation to help improve scar mobility and reduce discomfort. C-section scar therapy can help to reduce common symptoms, such as numbness, swelling, pain and sensitivity, and promote cosmetic improvements after C-section.
