C-section Recovery

What is a C-Section?

A C-section, also called a caesarean section, is a surgical procedure to deliver your baby. It can be planned in advance (elective) or performed in emergencies. During a C-section, your doctor makes a small incision in your lower abdomen, just below the bikini line, to deliver your baby safely.

Recovering from a C-Section

While both vaginal delivery and C-sections are amazing ways to bring your little one into the world, recovery from a C-section typically takes a bit longer.

Here at Physio Katy in Beckenham, we understand the importance of supporting your body after childbirth, especially after a C-section. I will support you on your journey by putting together an effective, fully tailored treatment programme that will be centred around the latest techniques and proven therapies and designed to get you and your baby back on track.

Mummy MOT: Tailored Support for Your Recovery

6-8 weeks after your delivery, we recommend scheduling a Mummy MOT. This specialised assessment helps us create a personalised recovery plan that addresses your specific needs. During your Mummy MOT, we will:

  • Discuss your delivery experience

  • Assess your posture and core strength

  • Check for diastasis recti (abdominal muscle separation)

  • Evaluate your pelvic floor health (with your consent)

  • Examine your C-section scar

  • Screen for potential issues like bladder control, pain, or sexual dysfunction

  • Recommend safe exercises and techniques for daily activities like lifting your baby or using a stroller

Treating Diastasis Recti:

Many women experience scar tissue tightness or adhesions around their C-section scar. These can contribute to pain in your abdomen, lower back, or pelvic region. I offer manual scar release techniques and visceral manipulation to help improve scar mobility and reduce discomfort.
